Comment | This mask was created based on a copy of "Waka-Onna" and inspired by "Kenreimonin" from the Noh play "Ohara Goko." In the Noh play "Ohara Goko," Kenreimonin, the daughter of Taira-no-Kiyomori and empress of Emperor Takakura, drowned with Emperor Antoku when the Heike was destroyed, but was rescued by a warrior of Genji and became a hermit at Jakkoin in Ohara. During Emperor Goshirakawa's Ohara Goko, Kenreimonin recounts the hellish scenes of the final days of the Heike. |
